Throughout the mid 80’s raft guides on the North Fork of the Gunnison and the Gunnison Canyon tested the original Chaco prototypes. These sandals were made by a local cobbler of webbing, scrap materials, and even old tires. The Western Colorado canyons filled with raging rivers, winding streams, and sandy beaches were the inspiration that spawned a brand fit for adventure.
Introduced to the masses in 1989 by the cobbler and Chaco founder Mark Paigen, this company grew to over 20 million dollars in just 20 years. In 2009 the company was sold and is now owned and run by Wolverine World Wide Inc..
First to market was the original Elon, then the Toque, and now the beloved Z. Chaco sandals are built on the LUVSEAT™ which is the noticeable curvature of a Chaco sole. The Biocentric foot beds are approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association to prevent over pronation (when the foot rolls too far inward). The extra arch support and shock absorption mimic the natural surface of walking barefooted on soil- the way our anatomy is designed to function.
Adding to the function of design, Chaco goes the extra mile with its ReChaco program. This sustainable model allows owners to reweb, resole, and retool any sandal for the life of the shoe rather than having to purchase a new pair. If a product fails because of a defect in material quality or in the quality of the workmanship, Chaco will repair or replace it.
Today, Chaco is broadening its focus to encompass close-toed shoes. Using the LUVSEAT™ as its base, designers are fashioning shoes that cradle your foot to embrace the adventure. Now you can enjoy the fit of Chaco year round- without having to wear wool socks with your sandals!

Chaco, fit for adventure.
